Gotta give it to Dan Brown, he popularized an entire genre in literature, which as of today has been filled to the brink with his imitators.

We all know the drill. The scheme has been perfected to amazing levels at this point: an archeologist is in pursuit of forbidden ancient knowledge, while being pressed by time to save the world. Said archeologist is also being hunted by a secret society with evil conspiratorial intents.

As we turn the pages, we learn little known historical facts, and as a background we can see a number of popular tourist destinations, whose popularity skyrockets beyond anything seen before after said title has been released on the market.

Industrious tour operators design special educational tour routes tracking the steps of the protagonist, while wealthy movie producers rub their hands in delight in wait of the money shower from yet another widely advertised box office hit. All in all, it's a thriving industry!

It's an interesting question, however, at which point does culture become gag. Maybe when the tour operators and movie producers start ordering the titles?
